Woken up by sound of smashing glass this morning. Went out to investigate only to find that some moron had managed to hit drivers door mirror resulting in smashed glass and some minor damage to housing.

Anyone else had to replace glass or does whole housing need to be chnaged? Any ideas of likely cost?

Thanks,

Dave

my wife lost my offside wing mirror on a narrow road in devon. a bmw not paying attention to his road position clipped it. surprise surprise didn't stop and wifey didn't get his number.

only the glass was smashed - the housing was fine.

i went to my dealer (then ace kensington) and they said that you couldn't buy the glass separately and that a whole new housing would have to go on - £137.50.

bizz: am now most distressed that the dealer may have deliberately ripped me off by telling me that subaru only sell glass and mirror housing together. where can you get the mirror? it only has a couple of sticky pads on the back. can't cost more than a tenner...is it a subaru part or a generic mirror (that probably fits 20 other jap cars)

skipjack.

You ought to be able to pick up the glass from an auto factor type place. The glass will be a generic mirror. Sticky backside which sticks over the top of the old shattered glass. Consideration needs to be paid as to whether the mirrors are heated (need thinner - more expensive mirror). Either way, yours for the happy side of £20.
Just pick up the yellow pages and give them a buzz...

From your Subaru dealer £18.02 incl. VAT (or was in March when mine was broken).
