You can say that again...

Existing insurer's (NU) renewal: £930
Liverpool Victoria: £524

To be fair the LV excess is £50 higher, but I can live with that Remarkably, although I've already got a Cat 1 alarm, LV doesn't insist on one for my car. I understand that I can also mod to my heart's content - except engine transplants - and that this should not impact on the premium.

[For a JDM Forester S/tb in CO post code, full NCB, self and wife driving (41 and 38)]

Can I just say I had to make a claim and L & V were spot on!!!

They are one of the only insurance companies who provide a courtesy car when your car is stolen and not yet recovered. Most other companies tell you whilst it is stolen and not recovered (you have to wait 2 weeks to see if it gets recovered) you are not eligible for a courtesy car.

They don't tell you that when you take out the policy though do they??

Stereo was also nicked and they sent out a direct replacement and had it fitted...no complaints!

Just got a quick quote from them....

Your motor insurance could be between:

£982.48 - £1085.90

Tesco were £551 and Direct Line £601.

Just shows that for whatever reason what's cheap for someone is stupid for someone else! Gotta look around!

From the various posts about Liv Vic it would seem that they tend to be more competitive for maturer (is that a word?!) drivers and/or JDMs.

Late thirty something, cean license, much mods, crap post code, L & V £200 per annum cheaper than next best, and for those who don't, there's apparently no insistence on a tracking device, (and you can pretty much mod till your hearts content, with little impacting on your premium - although all get listed!)

Anecdotally I've heard to get good quotes you need to be thirty plus, and driving a UK or UK spec car

I'm currently £1200 as I swapped my car during my policy period paying an additional premium to see me the last 10 months.

Online quote @ L&V between £720-£850. As Judge says KkkkaaaaChing. Knowning my luch the premiums will go up in a couple of months.

34, F NCB, no points , EH47 and a wife who has bumped her car twice in the last two years

Yep, they got my business this year too - £700.14

Elephant were around the same costs (give or take a few pence), but the rest were all between £900 - £1200

Tesco were around £550, but need Tracker and don't protect NCD. If you want protected NCD, their quote jumped another £100

Beware of Tesco quotes, they require a tracker for you to be covered against theft and they don't always tell you this when you get a quote.

I have been quoted £796 from L & V. MY03 STi with PPP and a few other bits & pieces. SO postcode.
Tesco were very competative until I mentioned the modifications! They wanted me to phone Subaru and get a full technical break down of the PPP!
Right down to specific component changes! Yea, right! I'll give the business to someone else thanks.

Paul.

Exclamation Word of advice about L&V..

If you are under 30 and have an MY01+ i.e. Bugeye or later they WILL NOT insure you!! For some reason MY00- i.e. classic UK cars are OK under 30! Why, I don't know...

I'm still with Tesco but at £650 for myself and my wife at 28 with full NCD on a UK MY02 is pretty good...

Cheers

Jim

LV were cheapest for me by £180

Tesco's have you had a claim with them. They are not very good when it comes to making a claim. They messed my sister about something rotten.
But I am sure others have had good experiences with them, well, I mean their bog rolls are a good price for 12

All the best
Pete

Jasoon,
Like you I am ca28 postcode £475 fully protected / full no claims for me and the missus with L/v much better than direct line who quoted roughly the same the first year when it came up for renewal the next year they bumped it up to £800+ I fogot to say im over 40 that might have something to do with the L/v price as well.

Blimey, that does seem a bit OTT.

As a matter of interest I've just done a LV Quick Quote for myself for an 03 STi - the range was £730 to £780! I'm a bit older than you (+7 years), full NCB, self and wife to drive, in a CO post code (Essex/Suffolk border).

Was your quote for you only? If not, it seems that LV quotes are often lower if a female 2nd driver is added.

I am with L&V at the moment.
Last year £550. Just got renewal through this morning £745. WTF !!
My personal info has not changed since last year. Clean license, full NCB and am over 30!!!
Reading some of the previous posts, I cant understand why theres such a huge gap between what some people are paying and why the big jump in premium !!
Anyone in insurance explain this to me ?

Mr Gee

I found that LV Quick Quote was about £100+ than a phone quote.....

... but mine was £40 less!!!

The message from all our postings seems to be that LV is not terribly consistent, but then again how many insurers are?

It just goes to show that, at the end of the day, there is no substitute for ringing round each year. I know its a hassle, but at least with the aid of fellow SN members we know which half a dozen or so companies tend to be there or thereabouts most of the time - so the task is a lot easier than would otherwise be the case.

I've just renewed - gone with L+V, rather than 'privilege'. £690. 35, 9 yrs no claims, Protected NCB, with wife as second driver and both clean licences.

Main reason for switching was 'as long as engine CC not changed, Mods don't alter policy price' - Supposed to keep receipts in case of claim apparently !

Cheers,

Mark
