Well what can I say, apart from "Oh My God !"

 

are they ever gonna show a programme with the house finished?

 

total bodge job, did you see the state of the brickwork? - where was the building inspector, I thought they had to get involved in stuff like this

 

Complete nightmare,
Did anyone have a clue what theu were doing ??
Was the brick work in the wrong place or was it the steel work ??

Or maybe all of it !

Why build a house there, the tree was so close to the house it might as well be in it... But then again there wasnt any room of it inside......... it was so small !!!


Nice Idea....... But that has to be one of the worst designs / Builds ever shown.

 

The tree was protected so couldnt be removed.

Not my cup of tea - but repect for people who simpy refuse to be told they cant do it - and just get on with it.

The brick work did look "suspect" in places but then none of it was going to be exposed - and looking at the exposed blockwork in my loft to be honest it doesnt look that different.

Nice 2ft gap from that steelwork to the wall and that practise closing down halfway through the job! OMG! What a surprise - NOT!

 

That builder was super-fast though!

The prob with the steel was funny - "the trouble is we can't get to the middle of the tree"

That's what happens when the architect (who works from drawings) is left in charge of a real-life project

Bloody 'ell. Who's palms did they have to grease to get planning permission to build a *fortess* slap in the middle of a London Tennament Estate.

Apart from the location - right in the middle of the flats, taking up all the open space - it's also disgustingly ugly with no windows facing outwards at all. A real carbunkle.

Plus with that clueless woman allegedly 'in charge' it was bound to end in disaster.

The glass looked a bit crappy aswell - the hardwood cladding was nice though.

Has anyone noticed in these programmes there is a total disregard for H&S ? ...take the woman carrying blocks over to hubby on the scaffolding for example - I was just wainting for her to drop that last one right on her face - luckily it didn't happen.

The only hard hats in sight were worn by the presenters, even with steelwork flying about.

And my other pet hate with these programmes - people putting shovels and spades into spinning cement mixers - very dangerous practice to be showing to joe public IMHO - the spade gets trapped in the mixer blade and flies round -could be very naty

 

Yes my wife made a coment about H&S, With the little child runing about on the site when the steel was being erected.

 

Well, at least they went out and DID it....which is better than you lot sitting on your ar$es pontificating about it, when none of you will ever likely have the bottle/resources/vision to go and do the same yourselves

Well said dave, I built my own house with a little help from the few tradesmen that we used, none of them had H&S statements, none wore hard hats, and only one wore steel toe caps!! And they're the ones doing it for a living!!!
And anyway, do you really wear steel boots when moving a few blocks in your garden??? I doubt it!!

 

OMG she had no idea and had no tech knowledge who gave her the money?!?. She should be banned from sites for life, kids running round and walking in flip-flops the only reason it got that far is through other people. She had no idea where her budget was up to, Absolutely stupid cow I bet at the end she thinks she did really well and plans to do something like it again.

Don’t worry if you cover shoddy block work up with plaster its all OK!!!

This wasn’t a garden it was a building site! If you are in control of the site even a house and someone has a serious injury you will more then likely have a visit from the HSE and they can do whatever they want! Even send you to prison! Because you are in charge of their safety, you must check everyone are working to Risk assessments and method statements.

 

Mummy bailed her out to the tune of *120K* to cover the cost of the overspend that was a direct result of her mismanagement. And she still walked around with her nose in the air as if she had achieved something really good.

To be fair they knew full well they couldnt do it for the orig sum up front - but were willing to give it a go - planning to get more money once they had soemthing to show. I guess knowing parents had some capital must help in that situation but I'm glad there are still people willing to give it a go.

H&S ? I've helped move brick for friends having their own house done - and I didnt start whining about H&S. When its *your* house and *your* site your're more likely to just crack on rather than look for execuses to take a break

I must admit i hate football and love building the guys at work think there is something wrong with me that i watch grand designs and have no knowledge of the game that i thankfully missed!!

Anyway, back onto subject, hats off to them for trying but she was trying to save 100grand by doing it herself but it cost her 120 grand to finish the job, doesnt make much sense to me. The build was shoddy and looked awful and reflected in the fact nothing fitted!!

anyway must fly, off to watch home and leisure!!

Loath is an adjective (e.g. 'I'm loath to spend it all at once')
