Cool Got thrashed by a merc in the scooby!

Interesting event this morning. I was cruising into work this morning in the scooby (rare I get to take her) and came to the 'high speed stretch' which is a long straight section of road that is usually very quiet with excellent visibility for both safety and cop spotting. An e36 bmw was parked on my *** so I accelerated up to about 120 (virtual ) mph and he started to slowly drop behind (he was about 110ish). I pulled into the left lane to allow him to come past if he so wanted/could and he pulled in behind me. Out of nowhere a car flew past us BOTH like we were stood still. Merc estate, in full police colours with lights flashing I was reaching into my wallet to rip up my licence but they just kept on going and going (i'd say 145mph easily!) Wherever they were going they had some pretty big fish to fry!

Usually I'd say it was a 'close' one but even if the merc had its front facing camer thing on it couldn't have seen me in front of the BMW and when it actually passed I'd drifted back down to more reasonable speeds. I do wonder where the boys in blue were going in such a hurry, must be pretty major!! In fact now that I think about it I averaged about 100 (virtual) mph along that stretch and made the usual 'checks' before exceeding the limit by such a degree and the merc wasn't in sight. To have caught us when it did it must have been flat out

Could be anything - if L&B police, I can find out for you.....

Suspect C32 AMG estate - it was a C-class?

Either that or E55 estate, but not seen one of them in L&B.

It doesn't have to be some super unber saloon to go that fast. My 2.5 omega will probably do 145 on the motorway. I'd guess that it was a semi-powerful merc or better rather than an AMG one.

If it is an AMG one, then I'm gonna go find out how to join the traffic police up there quite a company car that you are allowed to go fast in

The cops get demo cars from the manufacturers all the time - could just be a demo AMG.

We had a Merc Estate on test last year. Can't remember what model it was, but it was a turbo diesel. It would do 135mph no problem!

Don't think it was an AMG but realistically any police merc would probably have enough oomph to do a ton 40 odd. No idea about class as the merc range is one I've never been interested in so doing know - looked about 3series estate size so that would be a c-class would it not?

Yeap - would have been a c-class then.
I reckon on a C180 (1.8 petrol) then

Avon and Somerset have at least one Merc estate that I have seen around. I guess they had enough "slumming it" in Volvos!

As an aside they also have a Smart car in full livery. I like to think that this is for "punishment" for officers not bringing in enough revenue!

" I do wonder where the boys in blue were going in such a hurry"

They were probably trying to get far enough infront of you both so they would have time to set up the laser gun.

Out of nowhere?? Have the police developed stealth mode? Or were you not paying attention?

LOL, you also have to consider his closure rate. When I pulled back into the left lane it was probably still a 1/4m behind but **** me did it fly past!
