We're going to Italy in June on a 2 centre break. First week in Rome and the second in Tuscany, flying into Rome and out from Pissa/Florence. However, my colleague thinks the rental companies will fleece me for dropping the car back to a different location - is this likely?

ALso, what's the story with upgrades? I once booked a Skoda Fabia in Switzerland and was upgraded for free to an Audi A4 with all the toys. I'm looking at hiring a Smart car and in the event they dont have one for me I really dont want to get a Chiquechento!
