Default Would you buy a P1 out of warranty ?

Hi all,

Drove a P1 a while ago, and still think about it occasionally - tis a great car.

Thing is, you read about quite a few of them needing work done under warranty, and it's serious stuff like engines and gearboxes !

Would owning one outside of manufacturers warranty be a bit of a liability ? Or is it simply the case that not many people say when all is fine, but you do hear when things go bang !

Cheers all

Thumbs up

Matt,
Depends on the mileage mate, I mean you could always take out the Subaru extended warranty.
Cheers
Colin

Have a look at p1woc.co.uk where a lot of the p1 fellas hang out. Reckon I'd spend extra on one with warranty though.

p1's are great cars.. but for less money you can get a type r.

as the p1 isn't under warranty, i'd seriously consider the type r over it.

Muffleman,

My extended warranty cost me £440 for two years. Hopefully nothing will go bang but compared to prices for gearbox and/or engine rebuilds, it's a fraction. Last year my car got new drop links and new front shocks (pre warranty extension). Prior to me, it also had the clutch replaced (judder) and ignition barrel (sticking).

I'd speak to Subaru Warranty or IM (Anyone know the telephone numbers?) about the warranty issue. Warranty can be extanded even after the factory one has expired but I don't know the details. Also worth speaking to independent warranty companies and getting quotes for covering P1 and STi type-r.

Jeremy.
