The noise is like a demented bluebottle trying to get out and it increases in pitch with momentum so not rev sensitive but speed sensitive. Even turned off ignition at speed and same noise prevailed. Noise is quite intrusive on motorway. Garage suggests it's bearings but the internal investigation is being delayed for paperwork reasons.
Any suggestions as to how expensive this could be eg bearings = ? or something else?

MY00 15000 miles, Euro Warranty questionable.

My MY99 car had it after they replaced my 3rd gear synchro

The garage that I swapped it in with said it was the final drive bearing. They heard it 'sing like a bird' on the ramps in the workshop, and that was from the service desk, through a wall in another part of the dealership!!!

Pity, because it was faster than my MY00.

mine had the same problem earlier this year. Cost me £600 to get it rebuilt.
