I think the Handbook says 5w30.
However, I phoned my dealer who said that they have been using fully synthetic 5w40 in line with a Technical note issued by Subara (problems with some engines) .... so that is obviously what I have used.
Suggest you check what your dealer put in it at the 1000 mile service and top up with that.
