I have a MY95 4 door in Silver which has the 2 slat (plain) front grille. Does anyone know if the newer grille, the mesh one with the plastic surround can be fitted on instead. The other differences I've noticed are the newer models have a reshaped bonet and slightly narrower headlights although I have seen a new style grille fitted to a WRX the same shape as mine.

 

You can`t fit the new shape grilles to the old shape bonnet because,as you say,the profile of the bonnet changed in august 96. it goes up in the middle instead of down if you know what i mean. The front grill you have seen is probably an aftermarket job or a cut up of the my97. For the same reason as the bonnet vents, the front grill wont fit with an old shape bonnet.
Having said that, regal autosport did make a copy of the later shaped bonnet vents to fit the early bonnet.
