I have just got my P1 back from the garage after having a new piston fitted .The piston slap has gone.There was also another problem with the engine.One of the solid lifters was not working properly and it had badly worn.I can not believe how quit the engine is it sounds so smooth and non of this loud ticking noise.Has any body else had problems with there P1's.

Which number piston, was replaced? Did they fit an oversize one?

how do you know if you have piston slap?
i have listened to my engine on start up and if you are paranoid like me then you think that you can hear something different!
will i know it if i get it?
is there a test to test for it?
i have 6500 miles on my p1 at the mo and allready have had 3 oil changes i use fully synth ( had gearbox oil changed at 1k to synth too)
this bbs makes me paranoid

My P1 has covered 8,500 miles.I had a oversize piston fitted.Subaru U.K know of the problems on the P1 and have made a kit up to stop the piston slap.My dealer had a listen to the car and he said it was piston slap,a am very happy with the result.If any body with a P1 is not sure what to do ring the servive depo at subaru uk west brom they told me to get it done.
