Hi,

I have the error code 22 - Knock Sensor...

Is this sensor likely to be faulty??? How much are they? and where does the wire run to so I can check this??

Thanks for all the help... Amazing how you get an answer when you NEED one...

Bought a knock sensor for 94 pounds no f$^&^ing different. Seen as nobody seems to know where this wire runs or has a diagram... looks like ill have to sort it myself.

Hi David
As far as I know the old shape Impreza (pre 2001) has only 1 sensor like yours, while the new one has 4 (1 per cylinder).
Sorry I can't help you about wiring diagrams, I have the Impreza Service manual (cd) only for the new model witch is totally different from our cars!
But I have a photo witch shows this sensor between the dumb valve and intercooler hose, I can send it to you if you wish and if it helps you!
Cheers
Jim

Are you sure thats its error code 22 as I can't see how taking the gearbox off would effect it.The speedo sensor is 23 ?
I thought the knock sensor was close to the front of the engine.
You could always try & contact Steve Lawson he seems to know everything subaru.

if the gear box has been out it is quite common to trap the wire as you push it back in to place. the wire should run along the top of the bell housing under the throttle body it is probably likley to be a single wire.
so intercooler off and just check that the wire has not been squashed or has been routed tightly around a sharp corner.

Cheers... It looks like Im gonna have to take the intercooler off then... doesnt look easy..

I have had a look at the ecu its self and cannot see a blue + white wire... so It obviously changes colour somewhere...

I will check to see that I have not trapped it under the intercooler...

Scooby Boy... I owe you a pint!!

I wouldnt mind but when we put it back together I thought that it was trapped but we just assumed that they grey clip was holding it tightly...

Took intercooler off.. God that pipe was stuck on the turbo well..

Undid top bolts on gear box... prised apart... pulled wire out... Bit of heat shrink and solder... jobs a good un...

not bad for an hours work...

Glad scooby garage didnt make me pay for the part whilst I tried it! Saved myself 94 quid.

Cheers

David
