Clutch Judder, I reckon I know what it is!

Just an observation,

Yep I get judder when the following circumstances come together

1) The scoob is cold
2) I've been reversing

Now am I right in saying that the clutch face is NOT solid material it's more like really compressed cardboard/felt/wood type stuff i.e not just solid metal?

If so, is it not fair to assume that when the clutch is cold, the face of the clutch gets "scuffed" in the wrong direction when reversed?

Therefore, the judder happens when the clutch face is being "Stroked" back into place.

Does this not explain why the method of "booting" the car can sometimes remedy the problem or indeed as suggested on the SIDC FAQ "Treat your scoob to a few full bore starts" as this process, quickly smoothes everything down and in the right direction again.

Just my experiences and thoughts

Try it. In the morning, reverse about 20 ft if possible, quite sharpish and then pull off normally as you would with a cold engine. She'll probably judder.

That night, reverse ya car into the garage and in the morning when you pull off, No judder

This could explain why it's intermittent and never seems to happen when the dealer takes it out

i hate tp blow you thoughts out of the water but when you select reverse gear it doesn't make the clutch turn in the opposite direction. To do this you would have to make the engine run in the opposite direction which it will not do!
reverse makes the car go backwards by sending the power through 3 gears not 2 so it makes the final output of the gear box turn in a different direction to when you go forward.
the clutch always goes in the same direction wether you go forward or backwards.
the fault is with the pressure plate hence the fact why an upgraded plate from p1s are used.

Good try though!

So what is the fault with the Pressure plate and what is the differance with the P1 plate?
If anyone says "Its uprated" I'll swing for them
