Is it Imobilized ? :0
I have just put a deposit down on a Holland import 03 WRX,
The current owner told me that it had an imobizer fitted as standard, and showed me a FLASHING RED KEY symbol on the dash when the key was NOT in the ignition,
Upon insertion of the key, the light went OUT !
Dose this mean that it has an imobilizer fitted ?, or dose it have nothing to do with it at all.....
Thanx G TOMO

Could be... if the transponder is built into the key it will disarb automatically. To make sure it's not a cunning piece of wiring
get a copy made of the key at any key cutter, the copy will work in the ignition but will not have the transponder to disable the immobiliser hence shouldn't be able to start the car.

Yep it's a subaru transponder key,
What make of imobilizer is fitted as standard ?
is it SIGMA ?
And if so , can it be upgraded to CAT 1 alarm & Imobilizer ?
PS The car is a new shape 2003 WRX if that helps..

It's a sigma M30 fitted to UK cars, and it's Cat1. Don't know if a euro import will have this though.
The transponder is separate to the alarm - this is an immobiliser built into the ECU. The alarm has its own immobilisers.

Yes UK cars have the transponder, but I don't think it's cat2. Thatcham status would be redundant anyway cos the alarm is cat1 and you don't get any extra benefit as far as insurance goes having a cat2 as well as a cat1.
