When I accelerate hard, change gear at high revs and floor the accelerator the engine seems to pull for an instant, then suffer a drop in power for an instant, and then pull normally. If I slip the clutch slightly during the gear change (i.e. let the engine revs build before fully engaging the cluth) then the power dip disappears.
Does anyone know why the power dip occurs?

cheers
Tony

I guess "hesitate" is a better description, rather than "drop in power"

Are you sure your not mistaking it for Turbo Lag, I myslef have an MY03 Sti and quite a lot of time I find I have a split second of Lag before the turbo comes back up to speed when really goign for it....

its not turbo lag because after the clutch engages the engine pulls for a short period (less than half a second) and then hesitates and then pulls again. If it was turbo lag wouldn't the drop in power occur immediately the clutch engaged?
