Question

If I replace the factory up pipe of my WRX with full decat should I fit again the EGT probe or it’s better to plug the hole and fit a resistor in order to avoid CEL codes?
AFAIK there are many cases with failed EGT probes even with factory up pipes, but I am not sure this was a problem of bad batch or a symptom of the decating as exhaust gas speed is remarkably increased with the decat although temp is down?
What are your experiences professionals, if I fit it again there is always a possibility of destroying my turbo but how many cases of failed EGT with decated up pipes have you and what do you suggest me to do?

So there is no one with decated up pipe on WRX >MY01?
Never mind I guess it needs the 2,2Kohm/0,5Watt resistor modification!

Took my decat upipe off as the sensor was knackered, "tried" to remove the sensor to replace and ended up knackering my uppipe threads for my efforts. So need to buy a new decat upipe now...... damm.
If you can get away without fitting it I would but I was in the understanding that even an Ecutek remap needed the EGT reading?

Thanks, the guys at NASIOC mention that the EGT sensor is there only for monitoring the temp of the first cat in case it's overheated with all the consequences, the only problem with the resistor mod is that you can't see if your EGT are very high but I guess this is obvious from other symptoms on the car, right?

think egt temps can me used for a few things and are important but not important enough for the STIs to have a EGT sensor - thats why I dont really care if it works or it don't

Recomendation from Scoobysport when I asked...

Hi

We can refit the EGT probe into the new up pipe, or we can leave the socket plugged and fit a 2.2k Ohm resistor to over ride this function.

I would fit it. If it fails (they fail on modded and standard cars with equal frequency) then fit the resistor.

Regards

Pete

Cheers,
Daz.

I had EGT sensor fail. Did Scoobysport resistor and it did the trick. Some have tried changing the OE sensor only for it to go again...waste of time.

The ECU only takes note of EGT readings when cold (I think), it's just to do with emissions....2.2 ohm resistor gives perfect reading for ECU.
