Has any one had this fitted and does it work ok?
The dealer hasn't fitted any yet and doesn't know
how good it will be for £160.00.

By the way, whilst on the test drive I got a wave from
a silver classic and yes the wife did take the ****.

I've got one fitted on my MY03 STI. It does work, although the final stage of beep maybe at bit too early, but better early than late I suppose. I believe it uses the microwave style system therefore it detects on the corners of the bumper as well and the plus side is you don't get the horrible little circles going round the outside of the bumper as it is all concealed within the bumper.

I have the PA fitted to my 03STi ... I regret it now as the money IMHO would have been better going towards springs + PPP upgrades instead or even just spare cash (we don't have to spend every penny on our Scoob's ya know ... well, so rumour has it)

It boils down to: can you park a car without reversing over everything in sight?? I've seen people reverse into the only tree in the parking lot (v. funny) ... do you fall into that category of driver?? If not then a PA is not for you, if so then get a PA and stay the hell away from my car!!

Had it fitted and it works well. Essential if you don't have a garage as every day in the winter the rear window is covered in dew and given that there's no wash wipe (anyone know why given then Jap cars have them?) you can't see through it to reverse; so from my point of vew is very useful.

Just don't rely on it 100% as it sometimes doesn't beep if you approach something at a steep angle.

The dealer wanted to fit a £400.00 alternative which didn't
impress me and as my Wife insists on driving and she can't see
the bonnet never mind the boot, I think it would be a good
investment.

Just bought one of the new magnetic parking sensors for my new MY04 STI. No ugly holes in the bumper and works a treat. Took less that an hour to fit and all for £80. Not that I can't reverse but I only have 4 inches to spare when reversing into the garage.

 

I've found it to be ok - but not great.

I get a lot of false alarms i.e. reversing out of the drive into the road so lots of open space but it still goes off, and at times the opposite (although I may be being unfair here) it doesn't always detect bushes

The upshot of which is that I'm still not confident in it (which probably a good thing!)

If you cant reverse without one of these toys im afraid you shouldn,t have passed your driving test or even be out on the road, controll of a car doesn,t mean just forwards, these so called aids make me laugh, being a transport manager i have 40ft artics turn round in my yard and reverse within inches of things without a "parking aid" and never has one damaged our boundry fences or parked cars, why not spend the money on an advanced driving course then you wouldn,t have to post this ar$e paper.

rdraper - the bumper looks exactly the same as a car without the sensor - so a picture won't tell you anything

andypugh2000 - I agree with you that you shouldn't "need" one, but at the same time anything that reduces the chance of an accident has to be money well spent. As I think another poster mentioned, when it's wet/misty etc its all too easy for an accident to occur (and no I haven't had one )

 

Not driving reduces the chances of an accident anyway just my opinion, i eagerly await the launch of automatic braking then i think i will definately give up driving as peeps will be just a passenger behind the wheel soon. myself i like zero gadgets as i like to get involved with my driving experience and look forward to the challenge of sqeezing my scooby wagon in between the bumpers of my neighbours cars as i have no off street parking

P.S my wife couldn't park a car to save her life until we moved into our house where we only have on street parking, now she has become an expert at parralel parking out of having no choice

 

andypugh2000 - but how many dings did she inflict before she got it right?

 

I have often toyed with the idea of reverse engineering one of these so that MY horn is activated when SOMEONE ELSE gets too close when manoeuvring - since car park damage is getting more and more of a problem these days - only issue I could think of would be battery drain if left on for long periods. ???

If a manufacturer ever came up with one that gives a loud audible warning when someone else is too close I would pay good money!

I've got them on my Legacy, and in really tight spaces (of which there are gazillions here) they really take a lot of the guess work out. I prefer to let the wee computer give me an idea if there are any obstacles I can't see than paying for being a tough guy...

Just IMHO of course.
