STI8 question

the jdm versions are 1 ahead of the uk so the uk sti8 is a jdm sti9

Really Mark? Who says? Please find us something official (either Subaru UK or Subaru Japan's website will do) that says so.

So now im confussed as everybody on hear said its not a STI 8 unless its an 03 model.
That's because loads of people here are cheerfully talking bollokcs/making it up as they go along. Just because it's commonly said/accepted on Scoobynet, doesn't necessarily make it correct. If there is any logic in the numbering convention, your car is, as you think, an 8, while the MY03 car is the version 9.

There's not really any such thing as an STi8. Subaru stopped officially designating a version number to their STi models when the older shape car went out of production (at which point they were up to version 6), so, in reality, all this STi7/8/9 bollokcs is pure invention, and officially means zip. It'd now be far less confusing if people just used the model year and target market (e.g. MY03 STi Type UK, MY02 STi JDM etc.)

However, as you say, many people here do insist on referring to all the MY03 STi's as STi8's, while some (see Mark above) call the MY03 Type UK an 8, while referring to the Japanese MY03 STi as a 9.

You'll see a couple of different justifications used for this, but none has much logical backing.

In other words, don't get confused by all the number talk that's used by people here, as it really means diddly squat. As long as you know what you've got, it doesn't matter what number anyone else uses.

So lets see, the MY00 STi was officially STi6, so when the bugeye STi came out that was STi7, that hung around for MY01 and 02 cars, then the body changed, but for the UK they retained all the previous cars engine transmission etc, so that became known as STi8, at the same time the JDM cars had the same body but all new engine/transmission and some running gear, since that was one step on it became known as ... STi9.

Sounds logical, could be.

Suggest you check you model and trim codes on the aluminium label under the bonnett, will be on the nearside strut top if JDM. That can then be used to gelan the specific spec of your car. No need to guess. There are actually about six or so JDM STi models so its not suprising that people get confused.

If you mail me the model and trim code of your car (as profile) I will check in the book and let you know.
