Just been to the dealer and had my 'Check Engine' light diagnosed as a faulty Throttle Position Sensor...

Anybody got an ideas what this is ?

Does its fault account for my higher fuel consumption ?

Its going to be fixed under warranty but it sounded expensive... for a small bit !!!

Thoughts...

It's one of the sensors that the ECU uses to work out what kind of fueling/ignition timing to run - it tells the ECU how much right foot is being uses....

Matt.

the tps is the little unit on the other side of the throttle housing it does as mutant matt says and telss the ecu how far open the butterfly is.
it can also cause the engine to idle rough or drive rough.
