Question

Has anyone added Slick 50 engine treatment to their engines after the first 1000 mile service? What brands of oil do you use? (Mobil 1, etc)

People i've spoken to have mixed feelings about slick 50. Some say it's worthwhile, others that it destroys the engine(over time). Personally I would'nt risk it. Why risk Subaru refusing a warranty claim over something that may or may not work?

You'd be far better off changing the oil at 3000-4000 mile intervals, although the 7,500 service is a good compromise.

As for choice of oils. My dealer recommends the Shell Helix semi synth for the 1st(1000 mile) service and then the mobil 1 5/50(supplied by the dealer) for subsequent ones. The theory being that the heavier oil(shell) helps the continued running in process and after 7500 miles the full synth can be used to get all the benefits from a fully synth oil.

Hope this helps

I don't know if this is an attack of the "Chicken Bones", but I do not trust a fluid which has had a relatively small amount of money spent on it as apposed to the likes of Shell and Esso who will spend millions of pounds on the additives to oils.

I doubt there is any positive gain to these types of additives and I shall remain to walk on by the shelves in Halfords.
