"they just dont do for me what the classics still do"

i am a big fan of the classics actually, i dont think much of the 01-03 models

Got to be honest, I think my 03 WRX looks a bit like a Hyundai Coupe from the FRONT, but love the rest of it

Destroys most other 20 grand cars with ease all the same.

Isn't he from the place where they used to kneecap you as quickly as look at you? They've had to play goody two shoes over the past few years Yosser, so be careful, Jay might be feeling a little twitchy...

not sure what your point is. Take the scoop and spoiler off an old shape and it looks like a chrylser neon.

I drive my car beacuse for how it performs - not for the image others might have of it.

JimmyWRX is right, why do people continue to do the old/new shape argument, aren't we all performance car enthusiasts?
I've never owned an old shape (why people call it 'classic' I don't know) but my dad did, we both now own STI8's, I've also owned an STI7.
The old/new shape cars are very different, but Subaru had to move on from the old shape, because, it was old. But it's the same with many manufacturers, the later versions always seem to 'grow up' and become more civilised.
Let's be honest, Impreza'a have never been the best looking cars on the road, whether it be old or new shape, it's the dynamics which set them apart, for both shapes.

In terms of the rally presence, look at an old shape then a new one, which looks old fashioned?
At the end of the day it's down to individual taste.

Chris.

I have owned three scoobs - My00 Turbo, UK300 and currently STi8. I have never purchased a car for it's "presence" - for me the two things I look for in a car are price & performance. Nothing comes close to Scoob ownership for my two key drivers

I dunno

You dont want to have a classic v's new age debate, but then you start one deliberately.

Anyone else think thats a bit odd?

AND, ive no doubt someone else will come along and say:

'Well I like the XXXX and I think the YYYYY is a load of pooh'.

What was the ORIGINAL question?

Though I love the old shape Scoob for what it is, the bread and butter turbo models have very little road presence in standard form - a classic turbo is understated by comparison to a bug/blob eye. So if you define "road presence" by people knowing it's there, then the new shapes have that in spades. Just look at how emotive the new shapes are - people either love them or hate them, very few are indifferent to them.

All IMO of course, but having picked my car because of how it goes rather than how it looks, it's all academic anyway

Well, I like all the subaru's. Thats why i bought one. And if i couldn't afford a turbo, i'd probably go for a non-turbo.
Merry christmas

I think the subaru is an excellent car whatever version you prefer. It's true, you buy a scooby because of the handling, 4 wheel drive and performance. Some like the looks of the classic and other of the newer versions but this is all down to personal taste!!.

"i bought my car because of performance, not looks"

UTTER BOLLOCKS
why then have some many moved from an the bug eye to the MY03 you may try to fool eachother but u do not fool me, keeping up with the jones comes to mind, i read many times that the STi8 UK has the exact same engine and gear box as the STi7 UK so why have so many changed?

Mr Jones is taking u all for a ride

i'll tell ya why i thought of this was going going out of work and i seen a MY03 WRX and it was like just every other car i see, but see when a classic goes back 4dr/3dr/4dr turbo 2000/sti/wrx/whatever it always makes me look and appreciate it.

Which version do you drive Madjay?

If the 03 WRX looked like every other car on the road how did you notice it to notice that it looked like all the rest of them?
