Are these just ECU re-maps? Is it possible to tell if the car has been moddifed (insurance purposes)

Would I be worth just getting a TEK2 on its own with no other mods? Would I notice much performance increase? what sort of BHP should I expect?

Thanks

1. Yes
2. Yes if they are switched on and can get access to the equipment to tell (routine dealer check would not reveal). Always declare mods.
3. Can be run as is. +10% power typically, same again with decat.

Not aware of any premature failures related to tuning UK/Euro engines still on their original turbos with Ecutek tools that are related to the ECU.

Ecutek and their dealers are trying to avoid reference to "Tek x.y" and and marketing their own products individually, Ecutek are emphasising use of their tools.

However, Tek 1 was an upgrade map for the MY00 to make it similar (slightly better) than the superior MY99 ECU. Tek 2 was a standard map produced by Ecutek based around a decat UK/Euro MY99/00 car. A map I produced based on this running slightly higher boost was dubbed Tek 2.5 by some and the name stuck, but I no longer tune commercially. Tek 3 was a customised map to the individual car which is available for imports and UK cars from MY99 onwards.

Thanks John. Partic interested in "Tec 2.5". Whats the boost standard versus Tec 2.5 please?

And what does that correspond 2 in BHP terms (only other change being exhaust)?

cheers

Standard 13.7 PSI dropping to red line.

Tek 2 16.0 PSI dropping slower to red line.

Tek 2.5 17.7 PSI dropping slower still to red line.

These are the programmed targets in the ECU but they are not always achieved in all gears in all driving conditions - they are targets the ECU can pull the boost down to if it overshoots.

The turbo is getting inefficient the more you raise the boost so there is a compromise on ignition timing.

In testing I did I found that Tek 2.5 produces about 10 or so extra BHP over Tek 2.

Do a search for loads more info without rehashing it all again.
