Burning oil ? Lumpy performance in 5th

I've got a MY00 with 2500 miles on it. I've had it since new (imported it myself), and had it serviced by Subaru Leics at 1000 miles.
I checked the oil last night and noticed I'm down to just over half - is this normal or do I have a problem? I'm not driving it particularly hard most of the time and treating the turbo with respect (idling after hard driving etc)
Also, if I floor the car in 5th from about 50 mph the turbo cuts in and the car feels a bit, well, "lumpy" - again is this normal?
The car is completely standard, no mods at all.
Am I being paranoid or should I get this checked out?

The level isn't far off actually. If it is just over halfway between min' and max' this doesn't mean the sump is just over half full. The dipstick just shows the optimum points and not the total quantity in the sump. After an oil change I found mine at a similar level and it only needed quarter of a litre to fill it back up. If you ever decide to supply your own oil you will need to leave them a 4.5ltr and a 0.5ltr if you want it up to the max' level, otherwise it comes back at a level similar to what you describe. Top it up and keep your eye on it but I think you'll find it will be fine.
As for lumpy 5th take it to the dealer and show them. They'll sort it.

just a thought.. I seem to remember reading that when you do an oil change you should fill the oil filter first, refit it and then fill the engine with oil. If this hadn't been done - could this account for the slighyly lower than expected oil level?
If you're not happy, pop it back to the dealer and ask them - I doubt they would charge you for checking the oil level (at least I hope not
)
