HKS EVC anyone tried it?
I am running STI5 with HKS inlet, super Drager and Electronic Valve Controller. I had setup at Power Engineering and fuelling and timing was fine at normalish boost which I believe is about 1.1 bar. I have the unit set for 1.1 or 1.3 bar now and wonder if anyone has any advice as to what is a safe max boost to set assuming fuelling keeps up?
Also should I fit F-Con V and if so what should I expect from it. Would a sequential blow off valve do me any favours in terms of driveability?
Anyone help?

Hi Phil,
I run a similar setup to yourself. Mine is a uk spec 98 car with Drager/HKS induction and evc. I run mine at 1.15bar and have never had problems. A uk car should be safe up to 1.2bar. I haven't a clue what to advise for an STi but in view of the fact that their ECU's are mapped for higher octane fuel I would say that 1.2bar would be a safe figure. I certainly wouldn't go beyond 1.3bar. Did PE check for det at 1.3bar. If there were no problems then you should be fine. Do you run on super?
As for F-Con V, it looks like an excellent piece of kit like all HKS stuff, the only problem is that there seems to be no-one sufficiently capable of mapping it in the uk, not that I would trust my car with anyway. I am seriously considering the Unichip for my car which works in a very similar way to F-Con, it's a piggyback which allows the standard ecu to still control step up and cold running etc and retains all the standard functions. It should work extremely well with the EVC which is probably the best boost controller on the market. Powerstation are clearly the people to speak to with regards to unichip. The unichip like F-con controls fuelling/ignition timing but requires an outside boost controller. The effectiveness of this conversion I imagine would vary depending on type of boost controller/bleed valve used. With an STI I'd consider a remap anyway!
As for the dump valve, I've tried it on mine and the car seriously overfuels on overun, 70 miles to half a tank certainly suggests the car was running a tad rich!! Unless you're running mega boost I don't think the dump valve is worth the money. I removed the dump valve on mine after the poor fuel consumption but I am running with it again now as I am experimenting with an FMIC, first impressions seem awesome, there doesn't seem to be anymore noticeable lag and the car certainly goes better, it's a pig to fit though, but that's another story!!

Hi Nito - thanks for reply.
PE didnt check at 1.3 because I went there as soon as I could after installing the EVC and I set it low - 0.9 or 1.1 bar to be on the safe side. We got 285 bhp and 255 lb/ft at 1.1. (pre super drager but with front cat removed) I will revisit them soon to check the higher level and see what happens. It seem s to run great on super unleaded and I will try an octane booster after my next PE check up to see what difference it makes. The EVC has the overboost button set for 1.55 bar for 10 secs but I have resisted the tempation so far! (Expect a big bang)
I will check out the Unichip as you suggest. Does this require individual setting up for each individual installation or is it pre programmed?
Don't think I'll bother with the dump valve - we have to stop somewhere, dont we??

Hi Phil,
The unichip is mapped on the rollers for each car individually which also lets you maximise gains on whatever other mods you're running.
-We have to stop somewhere don't we?-
Tell me about it!! That's what I keep saying to myself.....

Hi Karlo,
I can help you out with instructions for the boost controller, mail me your address offline and I'll post you a copy. Note, I use the HKS EVC4 boost controller which is slightly different from the pro but should be very similar to set up!

Nito

The pro has extra wires for reading revs/speed etc...
But basically its the same if u ignore those wires...
Programming it is similar... but it does have extra functions.... mappable boost curve based upon revs..etc...
