Question

I have a replacement MAF.(Nissan300zx)

Fitted to my modified STI 5 Type R.

This was fitted as 2 standard MAFs blew in the space of 6 mins
during mapping.

Car runs/idles accelerates fine

At WOT in 5th I get CEL @6000rpm.

MAF housing is slightly more restrictive than normal

So I guess less airflow will be occuring at such speeds than should be the norm.

Could the CEL be due to overloading the MAF.

BLITZ LM induction.

Stays bottom green on Knocklink.

Dawes AFR only shows red intermitantly.(no other colours ever)

This is the only time I get CEL.

Have you any way of finding out what the PowerFC fault code is? I know the documentation is a bit poor in English, RC Dev should be able to advise.

Thanks John.

I should've thought of that!

'Twas R C. who fitted the darn thing.

they are fragile but IMO you have a problem causing this number of failures.

if it is not oil contamination it could be vibration.

The Z32 maf should be fine. I have used one on a subaru ECU with good effect. DO you only get the problem in 5th gear? If so I would suggest it could be roadspeed related?

Also the Power FC will flash the CEL when it detects engine knock, which would also be possibly flat out in 5th as it's a very high load situation for the engine, water temps also might be variable in same situation, but not in this weather.

Paul

Hi Paul

This only occurs in 5th.

At no other time. Also The F.C. commander is not recording spikes.
As I say Knock does not appear to be an issue.Bottom green on knocklink does momentarily go brighter.

TD05/06/20g 1.45 boost,Will try again tommorow on lower boost setting 1.2 and let you know.

Steve

As you say T-uk Oil contam. was initially an issue.
Think this has been resolved now.
Rerouted breathers /blocked inlets to induction tract.

Cheers Paul

Took car out for run today to check and indeed got a Spike on F.C. Commander when on WOT in 5th running 1.45 bar.
Dropped to 1.2 bar mapped boost and got No spikes WOT in 5th.
Car has had fuel mapped for 1.2 and 1.4 Bar boost.
Looks like that extra unmapped 0.05bar has caused the problem.
Would appear Knocklink is running low sensitivity?
Is it the screw on top of guage that adjusts it?

Will get fuel mapped accordingly.
Thanks
Steve.

Your best bet is to find somone with detcans (or make your own) and calibrate the knocklink so that the red light corresponds to some recognised levels of detonation.
