Is it a UK car? I'd say Full De-cat, STI intercooler, silicone hoses and a custom EcuTek re-map would see you right.

I think at that age the turbo's were allready front entry???? but if not a front entry conversion would be good. I'd also recomend an uprated panel filter and removing the resonator box (did they still have these on MY98's??)

Plus i'd change the fuel pump then add a knocklink, AFR gauge and boost gauge

Thumbs up

Full de-cat
Bigger turbo
Link ecu
Induction

Thats the proper way of doing it anyway should be around 320 bhp

Full decat, panel filter and remap would probably give 265 or maybe 270 at Power Engineering (less at power station, a little more at G-Force)

From there, port your headers, add induction kit and uprated TMIC, add hoses, uprate your fuel pump and regulator, you'd get perhaps in 280s.

To get 300, you'd need a bigger or better turbo, and remap the ecutek to suit. You could probably make 300 on a hybrid TD04 without getting more laggy. For more power still, make it a front mount intercooler and an even bigger turbo (front entry TD05, probably), with an ECU/map to suit.

IIRC, Power Engineering are the only people who will remap a 98, for anything clever, you'd need a new ECU.

Why 300bhp? 280 with a nice wide power band will be good, or with a front entry TD05 and FMIC, you'd have a bit more lag but potentially say 340bhp.

The MY98 still runs a TD05 IIRC, Also Front Entry IIRC (though i'm not sure) which is easily good for 300bhp. I reckon with a STI top mount, silicone hoses and a full de-cat you'll be knocking on for 300bhp (with custom map). There's no point in increasing the turbo size although if it's not front entry, that should be done, And remove the resonator box. Water injection could squeeze a few extra horses out.

The Link ECU isn't much more expensive than a custom EcuTek Map and would also get rid of that troublesom MAF sensor.

MY97+ UK cars have a TD04.

On optimistic rollers with induction, inlet pipe, TD04 hybrid, STi intercooler and good exhaust you might just get 300 BHP on a cool day.

If you are thinking of going down this route with a UK98 it can be quite expensive to get the remap (IMHO) - so a groupbuy has been arranged by NM, you can find details here http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=272511

My UK97 has the same motor etc as your 98 just to give you an idea I'm running 270 / 243 on PE. With Blitz mushroom, Silicon hoses, STi 5 i/c, Dawes set at 1.05bar (fuel cut), Walbro fuel pump, ported headers, Scoobysport up pipe and full rear system.
