Question

Anyone had any experience of a K&N cone induction kit on a MY99 (ideally with PPP)?

Cool

Bob,

Have you found out if all those loose hoses should fit anywhere on the green kit?

I can vouch for the Blitz cone, but K+N are also top quality kit.

basicly I'm more confuesed then anything else...!,

The dealer (who I grow up with)told me, if I cover the pipes so no dirt or **** goes into but still let them breath then I should be fine, But then a read that thier for keeping the crankcase cold and are very important!!!

who do I listen too, are should just put the old crap air box back???

I have set out mails to companies that may have ducting pipes that the induction kit can fit on and the hoses will fit too!!!

Gawd, my poor head...:-)

Cheers

Best course of action:

1) Return the car to standard (refit airbox, making sure all hoses are secure).

2) Make further enquiries about the kit, if it doesn't include and application specific pipework/adaptors it isn't going to let the breather system work correctly, so it isn't correct/safe for your car, so get a refund.

Sounds like you have just been given a generic cone filter rather than a kit specifically designed for your car.

The K&N cone on ANY Scoob will be brill'!!
I've had one on my MY98 for ages, and I love it.
I bet there's nothing in it between the K&N and the Blitz one either, certainly not considering the price.

I refitted the old air box today, :-( no ill effects to the car but the car seems much less lively.... I have come with any idea to fit the induction kit back, but it will have to wait until the weekend!

Cheers for all your help,

I don't think that KN have finalised their filter for the MY99. I have Emailed them a few times and they say its coming soon!! Graham Goode do a version that fits but they wanted Mega bucks for it.
If anyone knows any more info please post it up.

Saw some other post (either on here or the email one) that had a review in a jap mag for air filters.
K+N won for filtration quality, but the blitz was a much bigger bhp improvement.

My blitz got fitted today, so i'll let you know how it goes on the way to work tomorrow

Both Blitz and K&N claim approx 7-8bhp increase.
K&N is also less then half the price of Blitz.

Question

To ptholt, can you please let me know what you think of your blitz induction kit? I have my STiIV booked in at P.E for a service
and A.P Brake upgrade and I was thinking of having one fitted.Does it make a nice induction noise etc? I already have an exhaust system from david hendrys. Any replies from owners with the Blitz induction kit,I would appreciate your comments.
many thanks

LordLucan - LOL

James, i have the Blitz Cone on my UK MY99 and it sounds lovely. Around town and on light throttle you can hear it gently sucking and when you floor it, it makes a bit more noise but i wouldnt say too excessive, it also makes a lovely whoosy noise as the dump valve releasing boost can be heard through the open design.

Go for it!

HKS have (allegedly) been known to weep filter oil into the cars sensative bits (MAF sensor). Not good.

I like the K+N design, but when I last looked there wasn't a proper kit for the scooby, except GGR's, which was way overpriced IMHO.

If there is an official K+N kit with all the necessary adapting hardware for your specific impreza it would be worth consideri ng, along with the Blitz...

Gary,

Fitted a K&N cone to my MY97 today and I am well pleased. Nice kit ... good instructions, needed 5 extra minutes with a file to fit the thing ... but that's not unusual apparantly.

Not much of an induction roar ... but then there is a lot of kit between the engine and the intake to drown that out! You get nice but not over-loud whooshes and whistles on accelerating, and a very nice pssshhhht between gears!

You're welcome to have a listen on Sunday. (By which time the decat centre section on my back seat will have been fitted too ... yay!

Give ABP a call on 01270 567 177 and ask for the very helpful Chris.

Big (unplanned) U-turn. K&N didn't arrive, so paid a little extra and went for Pipercross induction kit.

Pronounced induction sound, plus 'pisssht' from blow of valve - but more importantly quite a noticable performance increase. Turbo spools faster, and much stronger at 5000rpm+. Noise can be a bit intrusive if holding on-boost at c3k, but performance gain is worth it!

Wow big time confused now...

I've been reading this thread and the Blitz induction kit thread with interest as i'm going to change my ramair filter for an Induction kit soon....

Now i'd thought about the Rampod but don't know hardly anybody who has fitted one....

Then i though arhh HKS.. but people are saying steer clear because of the weeping filter causing problems...

So Blitz i think... but now it appears that even though it makes the best noise and is probably the best built one... its filtration is poor.. not good on a filter...

Then theres the K&N as used by the likes of Stef and Bajie.. its cheaper than the rest and filters good... but lacks the name and the sound....

Is there anywhere that has a conclusive test/information on these or is it simply you pay your money and you take your chances ?

Help !!!!

Jason L

Before I got the Pipercross I spoke to a firm who prepare Group N imprezas for Rallying. They 'warned' me off K&N as there verdict was you pay for the name. They used to fit K&N kits when they prepared cars, but found they got better results (power wise) from a Pipercross panel filter than a K&N induction kit. The Pipercross induction kit improves yet further on the panel filter so offers substantial gains over the K&N, for basically the same money.

From other peoples experiance, the blitz is as effective as the K&N, but more expensive.

The only downsides with the PX is it is noiser than the K&N - more 'flow' more effective, but more air, more noise I guess! the other downside is face ache from grinning!

I had the Pipercross but suffered from flat spots. Turbulent air apparently. Now running the HKS which has a velocity stack inside the mushroom to smooth out airflow. Works for me anyway! Power delivery now much smoother than with Pipercross. No flat spots. Also I had more cutouts due to excess boost with Pipercross. But if I had yesterday back i'd go for the Blitz as you don't have to change the filter element and it looks the business

Where abouts in rev range are the flat spots? - I haven't noticed any yet (4weeks, 2000 miles), but forewarned is fore-armed!

Are you running any other 'airflow' mods ie exhaust, because I have heard Induction kits only really perform in conjunction with freer exhaust etc???

At that time I only had a Magnex back box with the Pipercross. The flat spots were around the 4-5000rpm range. I think the weather played a part too.

I think all scoobies are different, so experimentation is half the fun!

Now I have a Scoobysport downpipe, de-cat centre section and the Magnex with the HKS SQBOV and Induction kit. Puurrffect !!

Gethin.
