Magnex Centre Section
Whilst out shopping for a K&N induction kit yesterday, I accidentally bought a Magnex de-cat centre section.
I believe that Magnex do a version with a silencer and a version without ... I went for the version without on the recommendation of Chris at ABP Motorsport, as apparantly it doesn't do much silencing anyway.
My car already has a Scoobysport backbox, but the pie bolted in (fairly) easily between it and the downpipe. The only difficult bits were undoing the four bolts holding on the old bit (plenty of penetrating oil!) and doing up the new spring bolts holding the new section to the downpipe.
Now it's on the car is noticably louder at idle both inside and outside the car. More bassy I guess.
On the move the turbo pickup feels quicker, and the car seems to pull a lot more strongly at the top of the rev range, almost like it was being slightly strangled before.
The exhaust noise under acceleration is quite a bit louder and more raspy ... a lot more like a rally car sound! And on the overrun ... still lovely.
Whether either I or the neighbours will be able to live with the increased noise I don't know, but I'm pretty happy considering it only set me back £65.
Onw thing, has anyone else fitted one of these? Have you done anything to replace the heat sheilding that the original Subaru section has?
Cheers.
Andrew.

I have the Magnex decatt centre on my Link modified MY99 but i have the one with the small resonator in. Suprisingly it contains the noise quiet a bit compared to a pipe without the silencer (ala SS for example)
I dont think i have any heatshielding replaced??

I bought it from ABP Motorsport (01270 567 177) near Crewe. I spoke to Chris who was most helpful with the K&N kit I bought at the same time (And no, I'm not on commission!)

Yeah, I do have a slight concern about the front mounting bolts. They are a little too short for the application (and a bu**er to fit as you have to compress the springs to push the bolt through ... not easy on your back under the car!), and the washers provided don't quite hold the spring properly. Like you, I'm going to keep an eye on them, and maybe search for some longer spring bolts.
Thanks for the advice re. the heat shielding, that makes sense!
Andrew
P.S. One of my mates is desparate to hear what the exhaust sounds like now, but I've drawn the line at poking my mobile up the exhaust pipe!
