<begin boring topic>

I rarely get more than 400KM on full tank before the petrol light comes on, normally 380/390 and it's time to fill up again.

Last week the car went into service, and I changed the oil from 0W40 to 5W50 Mobil 1.

Now I've gotton 470km, which I've never even come close to before.

Could it be related to the viscosity of the oil I chose????

</end boring topic>

Cool

I doubt the oil alone would make THAT MUCH of an improvement in fuel economy (unless you never had any oil in the engine before ) .

Perhaps other service items such as change of plugs/filter perhaps have helped?, perhaps you have been driving it differently?
