I'm looking at purchasing a Scoobysport backbox and an ITG air filter for my 98 Impreza Terzo Turbo

Does anybody know of any useful information or problems that are caused by these modifications as I have heard a few bas rumours about ITG filters causing gunk. Would I be better to just have the exhaust and leave the standard air filter in place?

Does anybody know the gains etc???

I have a K&N 57i induction kit.
The car certainly is a bit noisy but there is an improvement in pick up and I personally think the car is better in the high revs (maybe imagination...).
The 57i kit costs 65£ and there is K&N's one million mile warranty on it.
Fitting is very easy, about 30mins!
+8bhp......thats what people say, but I personally think: +3bhp max......

 

My own opinion is that the SS backbox gives a slight increase in throttle response but little real power gain. What you get from the backbox are looks, quality build, and a great soundtrack. I've tried swapping between a clean standard and ITG filter and can honestly say I notice no difference whatsoever - perhaps a gain would have been noticed over an dirty standard filter. I have never spotted any gunk from using the ITG filter on my MY99.

I would recommend buying the SS backbox (so long as you have no insurance problems) but hold back on any performance filter unless your standard one is worn and covered in cack. I also suggest storing your old backback. When you sell the car it may make a difference to the purchaser - he may have insurance doubts if modified and you/he can always change it back.

Please see my comments on the thread I started about ITG / Standard filter.
I think there is a performnace difference to be felt. I am putting my ITG filter back in. My standard filter has only done 5000 miles so is not dirty.

I have had fitted the ITG and back box from SS.

First was the rear box, this gave a great sound and a little, just a little more response in mid-range.

Then came the filter. This replaced a very dirty standard filter, and again gave a little more response to the throttle.

But nothing to major. I am now looking at having the down pipe and PE Phase 1 extras done.
