Question

I'm looking to upgrade the rear silencer on my MY99 RB5. From searching through the old posts, the ScoobySport seems the preferred option - and it's a damn sight cheaper than the Prodrive upgrade

Is it all rave reviews or is there a catch ?

Cheers,
Stefan

PS. I would fit either an ITG or RamAir air filter at the same time.

Everyone that I've met with a SS backbox has been very happy with it.
I didn't actually go that route as I wanted something a bit different and a bit louder (just how I am!).
Wouldn't recommend a Ramair though, as there have been problems with gunky goo getting into the turbo.
Hope that helps.

'The Original' Stef.

Had one fitted two weeks back and I can definately recommend it. The sound is great, not too loud, just deep and throbbing! It also looks very purposeful indeed.

As for performance increases, I'm not really sensitive enough to my car to notice. It *seems* to pick up a little better, and be a little more open up at the top end ... but it might be my imagination!

Okay, so it's expensive, but it's a quality piece of kit! You won't regret it.

Andy

I've yet to hear about a Scoobysport backbox owner who wasn't happy with the product. As for it being expensive, let's not forget that it is stainless and comes with a 25 year guarantee... it'll outlast the car! [So you can fit it to your next one, of course :-)]

Stephan, have you ever heard an SS backbox fed by the SS downpipe with no centre section cat? The sound is absolutley amazing! It's still very civilised at tick over (hardly any difference from OE downpipe and cats) but as soon as you floor it, well, you have to hear it to believe it! It's been a while since I've heard a Group A rally prepped Scooby, but if memory doesn't deceive me, it sounds strangely similar [bar the backfiring.... no antilag system fitted to roadcars due to their turbo consumption... about 1 every 200-1000 miles!]

As for air filters, keep things simple and order an ITG along with the back box....

Cheers,

Pat.

Get it! You'll love it! I have fit it 3 weeks ago to MY99. Here in Germany, you barely find a car with such a sound.
Driving in a tunnel, getting down in third or second gear and floor it - the sound is fantastic.
I agree with Scoobysport, if they mention a lower fuel consumption. Driving 200 km every day to work on german highspeed routes i need about 0,6 to 1 l less fuel than before - and I'm driving not slower, cause I'm always too late :-).

Andrew
I don't think it's your imagination - I've got the same feeling.
Performance increase is there - no question. On a - I don't know the english expression - checkpoint (?) I'v got first time at this point 250 km/h, the time before just 245 km/H.
And its repeatabel - I have fitted the original once again, cause i couldn't believe it. BUT: It's true, there is gain in power and torque.
Remark: a K&N Air filter is fit(ted?) as well
