Chirping noise when starting engine??
Does anyone ever get a chirping noise as you turn the ignition key just before it catches??? It sounds like the chirp noise when your smoke alarm in house is low on battery power.
This has only started happening in the colder weather and is only intermittent. Everything feels ok though. Hope it's nothing to worry about?
Any info appreciated folks. Thanks

This may sound strange but my Focus does this occasionally 9about 5 times in 12 months). I just thought it was the transponder in the key turning the immobliser off. No idea on a scoob though.
I have this occasionally when my battery is getting low, it is the alarm sensing low voltage and resetting (even when you have disarmed it), a couple of decent runs and it stops until the battery voltage gets down.

Happened to me last winter when cold. As per the reply above, it's your alarm sensing that your battery is kicking out a low current when trying to turn your cold engine over. I didn't do anything about it last winter as the car never failed to start, but I've taken it as a warning, & replaced the battery as a precaution. Incidently, the engine turns over more quickly now, & the electric windows wind-up with a bit more authority now, plus no "chirping".
