Like the idea of fitting 18" Prodrive wheels to my WRX PPP but don't like the price. Also a little put out that the 18" wheels are only marginally wider than the 17" standard wheels (225 vs 215) so what's the point?

However, if I was to buy some Prodrive kit to make the PPP happier how about going for the uprated springs and staying with the 17" wheels - a much cheaper option. Would the lower ride height and firmer set up bring me some of the benefits which the wider rubber would offer but for less cash or am I better off just blowing the cash on both 18" wheels and springs?

 

18s will give you a better corner turn in. Also its not just the width you have to look at, the profile also affects the tyre foot print. Having said that 18s tend to make the ride slightly harder and you start to avoid pot hole and crisp packets . I am runnign 215x35x18 on a classic with full JDM STi "pink" suspension so the ride it setup on the firm side . They look good though

You have to be careful of kerbs as well

Give Wheelbase in Oldham a call - I bought a set of OZ Prodrive 18" wheels with Toyo tyres for a lot less than the dealer price

I have Prodrive Springs and 18" OZ wheels (PZeros) on my PPP MY01 WRX. It is superb - much tighter handling cross country, tolerable around town.

Anything below 40mph in town you will feel every ripple/bump whatever in the road - but once you get above that on the open road, it smooths out - feels very 'planted'. Much better steering response, direction change etc - very flat through corners.

And it looks much better !!!
