Help please; which lambda sensor is good for subaru?
I got today new lambda sensor from "Commercial ignition" with 3 wires; two of them are white and one black.
Subaru (legacy/impreza until MY97, not sure for others) are using lambdas with 3 contacts black, white and red!
Does anyone know if above sensor would fit? On fitting instructions there is warning that there are two tipes of lambdas ZIRCONIA (two white wires) and TITANIA (with red wire) and that they are incompatible!
Not too sure what is the difference!
Does anyone know the answer? Has anyone used lambda like this in a Subaru?
Thanks for answers!
Regards,
Kristijan

I have replaced the lambda on my '92 Legacy with a Bosch one for pre-97 Impreza. It had also 2 black & one white lead (or maybe vice versa). Anyway, it definitely is a Zirconia sensor, as is the original (although it is black/red/white). You just have to make sure that you connect signal lead (the one with different colour) to ECU signal input. I can't remember which colour the signal was on original lambda, but on my Legacy it had different connector (gold plated, heater connectors were silver plated). I think on the Impreza the signal lead is a separate connector (or at least it was different size/shape). The order of heater wires is not important.

It works!!!
So let's try which sensor does Legacy and early impreza have:
It's 3 wire zirconia sensor. On original lambda white wire with gold connector is ECU signal. Black and red wires with silver connectors are heater cables. SO you connect white wire from original connector to black wire on universal sensor and black and red wires to white wires.
Again very happy scooby owner!
Thanks,
Kristijan
Thought that there is one feed for the heater and it grounds out through the exhaust/gearbox/earth strap?
The other two are feed and return signal for the sensor.
