As a new member and a new owner of a great car ... a Scooby MY00 with 2,500 miles on it .... this may be an old problem and already dealt with, but .... at 2500-3000 RPM, when cold normally, the engine hesitates-hunts-splutters - it is not pleasant and not the experience i anticipated when counting out my £22000 on the dealers table!!! my dealer says, incidentally, that there is no problem ???? is it me or is it common???? thanks in anticipation - Pete

I have experienced similar problems on my MY00. Now done 4000 miles, and doesn't seem quite as bad now. Definitely more noticeable when cold, and mine does it under very light throttle openings between 2500 and 3000 revs.
Will mention when the car goes for its 7500 mile service.

Yes it only happens on slight/part throttle - cannot open her up until warm anyway ....... thanks for the info but has anyone had it cured and how????? any mechanics out there?? I have heard it said that it may be due to the stricter emmissions for the EU in that the car misses a pulse every now and again???

My MY99 did this when new - at the first service they cleaned the injectors; Hey Presto - fixed!
My dealer (Switzerland) seemed to know about it. It only ever happened on light throttle between 2.5 & 3k - more noticeable when cold, but also there when hot.
Let me know how you go - there's been a lot of previous posts about this (but there seems to be 2 problems - a boost problem under heavy load and the "hesitation" under light load) and I've yet to see another post confirming a fix.

Yes, I must join this happy band. My MY00 'hunts' when it is cold. Starts at around 2500rpm but as I never go over 2500 until it is warmed through it doesn't really bother me. Definetly no sign of it when the engine is at normal operating temperature.
Get some miles on it. I've just passed 12k and the thing has started to go like a ****ing missile!!!! This is my fifth Impreza now and each day I become more convinced that this car is the product of a tormented mind!!!!
Happy motoring,
Otis.

Had this problem on my MY99 when I had about 3K miles on the clock. Sorted it by using Redex injector cleaner just once and changing fuel from Q8 to Shell, not had the problem since when hot or cold . You will also notice that you will rev much more cleanly above 5500rpm as well once it is sorted.

PSlewis, I think our cars must have come off the production line together! Mine was also very jerky when really going for it through the gears, but this has definitely resolved itself as the car has run itself in. (or I've got used to the clutch action!?)
It felt to me as though the ****** was coming from the back of the car though...didn't feel like a boost problem, more of a transmission ******.

Pete, Dales
If you change gear too quickly then there is some transmission take up at the rear. At its worst you will get a loud bang from the rear of the car. Trick is to take your time with gear changes
Now I must go and get some injector cleaner. Coz mine is driving me nuts at 3k.
Cheers
