My 97MY had headlight and foglight cover on it when purchased. The lights on dip are horribly, terribly bad.

Do the covers dim the dipped beam that much? Is it worth me removing them?

Has anyone had a cracked front headlight yet without/with such covers? How much is a front 97 or 99 headlamp unit to replace?

thanks in advance,
Rob.

Hi,

Headlight and fog protectors were on my car when I got it last December.

I think they do take away some of the brightness, but not much at all. It sounds like the normal lights without the protectors are pretty poor from what most people are saying?!
I have just changed the headlight bulbs to some xenon numbers, and there is a noticeable change in illumination.
Anyway, both headlight protectors have small cracks in them where stuff has come up and hit them, and I'd rather that than cracks in the actual headlights!
Just look at the amount of stone chips on the front of your car, and then realise the kicking your headlights might be getting.

I am going to leave the protectors on for another month or two, then remove them for the summer months when the weather is a bit better, and there is a little less crap on the roads to bounce up and break something!

Hopefully helpful,

JHall

ps - anyway, not many Impreza's have the protectors on, so you are making your one more 'individual'?!?!

One of the first mods i put on the car, the headlight protectors, they do not affect the headlight at all IMHO, but the lights are pretty crap. New lights are about 170 pounds each for pre 99 cars and approx 135 for the 99 ones. I had a major accident (see the Donington thread in events )and the headlights were fine the covers shattered and protected them.

Having had a stonechip in my o/s/f headlight (97MY) and been landed with nigh on 200 quid for a new lamp unit, I invested in a set of light covers along with Scoobysport spot lights (a MUST HAVE for night driving on A + B roads). Don't do much with the light spread though have altered the in-car height setting switch (yeah yeah, I don't know its technical name) by one notch. Believe me, clear perspex vs several hundred squiddlies - NO CONTEST!

Ian
If thats the one with the link to the accident damaged car pictures, I have to say that my immediate assesment of the cause/ damage was stonechip impact!

Rob If You Are Going To Do Anything With Your Headlights Try Some PIAA Bulbs From Graeme Goode Racing They Do Cost About £52 But Its About The Best You Will Get. Regards Brad
