Hi all new to scoobynet,
I have just bought a 1994 Impreza WRX saloon, it has its original Japansese stereo (Sony make) with fm band expander. When I purchased the car the led display on the radio (which displays the frequency and clock) was very dim, all the numbers etc were fine but you could barely see them. The rest of the radio was fine ie everything worked. I opened the front of the stereo to get to the display, and the 2 green bulbs for the display were knackered, I soldered new bulbs in, and the display works brilliantl like it suppose to. But when you turn off the radio the display lights stay on showing the time. Is it suppose to do that? or is it suppose to go out completely? reason I ma asking is that I do not want the battery to go flat.

It IS supposed to do that , on the standard fit stereo in the UK model the POWER button remains lit, it only goes out when the cars ignition is not on. Are the lights on when the ignition is OFF, if so there must be a problem somewhere.

Thanks for responding, the display backlit stays on even when the ignition is off, although it just shows the time. As it is a Japanese stereo, I was not sure if this is how it is suppose to be?
