I have read loads of threads regarding the fitment of 6x9s onto the rear shelf, however after stripping everything off I am not sure how you get a flush fix.

My shelf is not flat there they need to go and am unsure how you make an mdf collar/spacer fit cleanly from underneath?

Any help appreciated

i am just in process of fitting kenwood 6x9s into my 95 import, i just removed the old speakers and the metal plate that reduces the hole and bolted the speakers straight underneath with no spacers, they fitted prety flush and seem quite sturdy

Am not the fastest I admit but this has been a job from hell

 

My advice form fitting loads of speakers over the years is don't bother with shelfmounts unless they were there to start with as you usually have to cut the bulkhead to make them fit. Get some quality infinity/alpine type speakers to replace the oem kit in the doors/panels and fit a bass tube/enclosure in the boot (with a bandpass filter. Its not on show, so out of sight out of mind and you don't have to drive them hard to get a respectable amount of bass out of them (best point them towards the back of the car (bumper) to extend bass for the occupants. Wire them up and bolt them down properly so they come out if you need the space to carry stuff to the tip etc.

After all the hours of work, to be honest its the front infinity components that are the real noise buckets.
I have had to turn down the rear 6x9s as they vibrate and dont give that much depth if you put too much trough them, no matter how hard they are fixed!

Would have been better just doing the front components and bass box in the boot...
