I am currently looking to have a type R imported for me from japan, I have heard a few horror stories regarding certain importers so i was just wondering who you guys would / would not recommend

Search any jap car bbs and you will struggle to see anything other than high praise for him.
I am on my 3rd car and know of friends and family that have bought totalling over 20 cars.
