FMIC to TMIC?/ import history
Hi all,
I recently bought damaged 95 wrx.The car has had mods (ZERO SPORT, I think) in Japan(I mean before the
collision),I'm trying to figure out the mods I can't see visually, engine, ecu etc.
I have not driven this car yet,(my first scoob)but when it's repaired it will be for road use,
and I'm trying to keep it reliable/safe without melting anything.
The car HAD an Apexi FMIC, if I fit a standard TMIC, what problems would I encounter, on boost , under/over fueling etc?
Other mods I can SEE. Apexi air filter. blitz boost gauge, turbo timer,d/p cat looks stock,no mid cat, 4 inch Apexi system from mid section back.
This is a long shot but....
Is there a way of tracking the cars tuning history at
the tuning co. using chassis no. etc.Do tuning firms keep records of cars they have worked on, ....
or has anyone sucessfully contacted the previous owner
of an imported car??
Thanks for any advice!!

I think you'd be lucky with the history!
The lack of TMIC I'd say is no additional problem over the usual JDM stuff. Obviously it's better to have an FMIC over a TMIC, but the 'lack of' - unless accounted for in a mapped ECU (if it has one!) in which case fuelling might be off, and timing definitely would be, even moreso than usual in a JDM (for UK fuel).

Hi,
...cheers Nom
No luck with the history...... so guys.
Gonna pick yer brains again...any advice appreciated....
The standard ECU cannot be re-programmed? is this true.?
So ECU modifications (if any) would have to be done by gaining access to internal components within the casing.
If I look at the ECU can I phyically see if it's the standard type, i.e is there a part no/ serial no to look for. Is there a tamperproof seal on the casing anywhere.
Does anyone agree that if (when) I test drive the car that boost gauge readings would be a good indicator whether or not the ECU has been altered.
What pressure should I be reading (assuming I go back to the TMIC).
I'm in Ireland, anyone know where I could get this ECU checked out?
Maybe fitting a 'known' standard ECU would be safest?
Thanks for any help... phew!! lotta questions there !!

Standard ecu can be mapped.
You need to find someone over there from a rolling road to come and have a look at the ecu.
Krade took his 95 wrx to a rolling road and it produced very nice power. Couldnt understand why but when the ecu was taken out, it was another Jap ecu that no one knows about!

5 type r,
Didin't get the FMIC with the car, no doubt was destroyed due to collision damage. All that remains is all the pipework(mainly intact) to where the FMIC 'was'.
A TMIC though, was supplied with the car.
That's the only reason I'm considering changing back to TMIC.

Keep the pipe work, you'll need it when you get bored with the standard power and want more.
Dave Wallis and few others can sort out a new ECU chip with different map.
Check the ECU board to see if its standard, record the numbers then find some on here who's more knowledgable regarding ECU's.
Forgot trying to find the service hx etc.

Cheers Marc A,
I'll have a look at the ECU next time I'm home and try to i.d. it.(working away from home at present).
I can make more enquiries on this issue whenever the car is almost ready for the road again.(can't wait)
