Question

Hi, Can someone please tell me what is the function of the rocker swich, set into the centre console alongside the h/brake lever and to the front of the coin holders? It looks to be a factory fit but there's no legend to suggest what it's for. The guy I bought it from suggested it was something to do with the diffs? But was guessing
Thanx

Isnt this the ice-on-the-road switch on automatics to hold it in a higher gear. Do you get a little snowflake light coming on the instrument panel.

An auto certainly has this for pulling away in a higher gear in slippery conditions and you should see a snowflake on the dash when pressed.

If your car was an auto converted to a manual then I guess it could be this and is now obsolete, although you say it's an STI and I don't think they ever did an Sti auto.

Is it defo an STI?

Thanks for all the help. I've checked and there's no light coming up on the dash when it's switched. As far as I can tell it's an STi, the badges say so. I believe the snow control switch has a snow flake legend on the switch. The folding mirror switch is in with the mirror control so not that.
According to the ID plate on the inner wing it's a MY97 STi 5 door manual. I've had the dash out a couple of times and there's nothing behind in the middle except for the series of holes for diff bias lights and there's no rotary control anywhere.
It may be a case of chasing the wiring through to wherever.
Unless someone knows better.
Gerry.
PS have taken a couple of pix but haven't a clue how to include them.

Rocker switch? If was "to do with the diff", you should expect to see a roller potentiometer there, and moving it should alter the DCCD display on your instrument panel (assuming you have one!).

Whatever it is, it sounds like a non-factory addition, but if you'd like to post a picture, with a bit of luck someone will be able to identify it.

Edited to say: Ringpuke, on cars equipped with folding mirrors, the fold switch is built into the mirror adjuster, not clipped in as a separate item.
