Mods for Impreza P1
Hi.
I'm planning a few mods to my P1 - I've listed them below - if anyone has done any of these, I'd really like to know what you thought of them....AND if there's any to steer clear of, please let me know...
- For handling, a full laser alignment and drop links.
- Green panel filter.
- Turbosmart blow-off valve.
- Full Group N de-cat system.
- Uprated fuel pump.
- B & M Quickshift.
I've been assured by a couple of companies that I do NOT need an ECU remap for fitting the de-cat system.
I WON'T be using an induction kit - just the standard P1 kit with a different panel filter.
I'm told that the P1 standard ECU mapping is more than adequate to handle the difference a de-cat will mean in terms of demands on fuel, so long as during the setup the regulated fuel is sufficient.
Many people have also said to me that knocklink sensors can be unreliable, as basically they are a microphone trying to distinguish between different resonant frequencies. The problem being that a different exhaust systems (be it a full system from one manufacturer or one made up of different makes) will all product different resonant frequencies - it strikes me that a sensor based on such technology can't be that accurate!? I'd be interested to know what anyone's experience with these.
I would appreaciate any experience/comments/advice - especially from anyone whose done any of the above.
Cheers,
Darren

You've already got quickshift in a P1, decat is ok but some P1 engines have gone bang with this mod and no ecu mapping and if you add bumpsteer mod to your suspension list that's cools

Some P1s overboost and det with exhausts when there are no faults on the car. Some do not. Prodrive claim that some det as well.
On the original engine the knocklink on maximum sensitivity is on the cautious side, but invariably christmas trees on knocklinks on standard engines respond to less boost, more fuel and retarded timing or a combination of all. Some you can hear detting without any aids at all.
People do blow up P1s with decat exhausts, the mapping is very aggressive for UK fuel and copes without the decat.
Since I don't sell knocklinks I can push them and say be guided by what it reads. If it is quiet then you are unlikely to have a problem. If it is noisy there may be a problem.
