Help please from technically minded people..

I have tried to get a front entry TD05 turbo for my MY02 bugeye and have been asked this question from the supplier..

"Does your car have the tumble valves in the intake manifold ? (beside the injectors) I have just learned that there is a clearance issue with these and further machining/adjustment is required."

Does it???

Thanks for the help

The MY02 WRX does have these. Not sure what the clearance issues are. 20G turbos for the US market (so all 01 onwards for factory turbo replacement) are being supplied by one retailer with smaller compressor housings perhaps for this reason.

John

Thanks again for your advice...it seems that the standard front entry TD05 is not a simple swap for the TD04 for the MY01 onwards...

any advice from yourself or other techies would be most welcome in selecting a replacement for my TD04 with similar characteristics to the TD05 and who would be willing to supply..

I think you mean the 06 isn't, what is the issue with the 05? I would have thought it was fine?

Hi John

The mystery deepens...

This is the reply from *cough* my TD05 supplier *cough* re TD05 for the MY01 onwards...........

"Hi Shaun

I believe all the 2001 onwards cars have the tumble valves therefore my TD05/06 turbo will not fit your car.

I hope to develop a modified part for the later cars in future. Sorry to disappoint.

cheers

****"

Please excuse the subterfuge but there seems to be some problems about naming in respect of advertising on Scoobynet....

I just wondered what tumble valves are..

Midlife.

The tumble generation valves are there to help emissions on start up. They are butterfly valves that partially close the manifold, forcing the intake air past the injector nozzle at higher speed. This gives better atomisation and a more efficient burn during the rich running immediately after cold start.

The motor on cyls 1 and 3 is in front of the turbo.

We've only fitted hybrid turbos to 01- cars so I can't comment on the amount of room. You may be able to remove the stepper motor and wire the butterflies open. If the motor was still connected to the loom, it would rotate but just not do anything.

John and Peter

Thanks for the replies. John, you are absoulutely correct, the confusion was at my end....sorry. The TD05 will fit the MY01 onwards but the bigger turbine of the TD05/6 hybrid won't.

So i'm back on for the TD05
