Question

Just curious really.... i've just aquired a MY98 manifold which i'll be fitting to a pre97 car. The coil is still on the manifold and i was just woundering if i could convert from coil-on-plug to the wasted spark system. Im interested as my coils are probably getting a bit old now and i don't fancy £50 a piece for new ones or trying to fit the aussie bosch coils.

Cheers,

Tony.

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?

you could but it would take some effort, you need to know how the ecu fires.. then fire 1&2 and 3&4 together etc..

may need to get an additional bosch ign module (008? 009??)

probably not worth the hassle.. cdi would make more sense possibly..

or just cheap bosch coils..

It's the one right in the middle of the manifold. MY97/98, not offset like the MY99/00. Don't know what it's worth.... nothing to me really. The manfold hasn't arrived yet but i was told it's definately on there....if you want it you can have it.

Btt as i'm getting a misfire when the engine is cold ..... maybe my coil packs have had it???????

Looked at the wiring diagrams for both types of ignition.... my current type has a 12v and signal wire (from the ignitor) to each coil pack and 4 signals from the ecu to the ignitor. The wasted spark type has two signals from the ecu (no. 1 and 2 together, and 3 and 4 together) and the same again from the ignitor to the coil (with a 12v supply too). So could i just connect the two signal wires for 1 and 2 cylinder together and 3 and 4 together and then splice into the inputs on the new coil???? I'd just need to know which colour wires supply which pair of cylinders. It looks a fairly straight forward operation..... as long as the voltage from the ignitors are the same???

Anybody disagree.....

Tony.
