I have just bought a 1994 Legacy turbo ( EJ20) and the back box has seen better days. It looks like an impreza box as the hangers are not quite right. Are they interchangeable?( with the proviso about the hangers ). The reason i ask is it will be easier to pick up a 2nd hand impreza box as opposed to a legacy one.

the centre section is the same but not the back box....different length, hangers, etc.......
you can get aftermarket back boxes from on of our suppliers (hayward & scott), i have looked into modding an impreza box before but if you aren't handy the cost would outway the savings you make buying it!!

If its cheap, and you have access to a welder etc, then yes, it can be done.
If not, then prob not worth the hassle.

Thanks fella's, the BB on the car is defiatley from an impreza. My dad had just dropped an impreza back box ( not much better than the one i have) from a previous impreza i owned, which has been lurking in his garage for 3-4 years. Both boxes are identical, but on looking under the legacy, someone has welded in approx 3" of pipe on the centre section, presumably so they could utilise a spare impreza back box they had? Does this make sense?
