Just been doing a bit of work for Jaguar on the X-Type diesel

Talking to the trainers and technical people they where saying that 42v will be coming in the next few years.
Apart from running satnav etc it will allow for electrically driven turbos, no lag just power from next to zero revs which will be nice., same for supercharging, power steering, a/c, etc. which will free up more power.

Just thought i would mention it.

Garrett had a bunch of electrically assisted turbos on display at the SAE Congress in Detroit 18 months ago, they look very funky. The best bit is that the turbine and compressor don't need to be attached so it makes the induction pipework very simple, it also means that on a vee or a boxer you can run two turbines to power a single compressor. Don't forget those interesting sounding combined altenator/starter motor combo bits...

Also, it's easy to use a nice efficient SMPS to drop to a nice clean 12v supply for the stereo etc... After market stuff won't be too bad to fit.
