I don't think the "gift" scam has any basis in law.
You're still liable for import duty and VAT on gifts.

You *might* get away with it if they're feeling kind, but let's face it, HMCE aren't stupid, and know that not that many people give each other sets of alloy wheels for their birthday.

Not saying it won't work - just make sure you can cover it if they do decide to charge you.

Any ideas what the cost would be to import a set of alloys from the states?

I know there are ways aroung getting VAT charges by customs......
How about shipping cost's?

Dont know about shipping but would have thought they would have been quite expensive. A dump valve was looking to be about £50 i think and alloys are bigger and heavier than a dump valve

Way round HMCE as you probably know is to mark on the package gift - and get the company to send an alloy to a different address around your way (ie mates). THen go and pick them up when they all come over
