A while ago, i was getting some overboost/fuelcut on my '98 uk turbo.
It only happened since fitting the Forge VTA.

The car ran fine apart from that, and also brought on some pops from the exhaust on overrun, which it didn't do before the VTA was fitted.

Anyway, i replaced the VTA with the original re-circ, and it still pops away from the exuast on overrun, and is still overboosting.

I dont have a boost guage, so i'm unsure as to what is really going on under the bonnet.

Any suggestions ?

Did you have a service round about the same time ? If so they might have overfilled the oil, it gets sucked into the air system and clogs up your boost solenoid so it can't control the boost quick enough. pull the pipes off your boost solenoid and buy some aerosol de-greaser Halfords do some and put your car in test mode and give the solenoid and pipes a good rinseing out. This happens even between services aswell......

 

The car was serviced prior to me collecting it when i bought it, that was 4k ago.
Actually doesn't seem to have used much in that mileage, have only chucked in half a litre.

I've read posts before on cleaning the solenoid, brake cleaner or similar should do it eh ?

Any ideas as to why the car still gives wee pops now and again ?
Is this all related ?

Ta mate. Seems like the valve was actaully ok, as the fault is still with the car even withought it.

 

I had something pretty similar so took the old scooby off to Power Engineering and they found that the hosing that connected up the turbo to the Boost solenoid and and a few others were on there way out. Got the pipes replaced very quick job and it went away.

The problem started initially in 4th and 5th but as it got worse every gear was affected. Worth a look as mine was a 98 S uk as well. Car is running fine now I also took the Forge VTA off got on my nerves on long journeys the bloody thing going off every time you lift off the accelerator.

 

Yep, exact same probs as i'm having. 4th & 5th gear on heavy boost.

Sometimes it'll happen in 3rd, but not often.

Can these hoses be replaced with silicone ones ?
