Question

Welcome to the world of scooby!

I don't want to sound patronising but have you checked all the fluid levels eg oil?

The MY97-MY99 cars suffered from piston slap, although most were covered by subaru's warranty

Did you buy from a dealer? Warranty? If not might be worth getting a specialist to have a quick look

Edited for stupidity

Mike

Question

If your concerned about anything the best bet is to go back to the garage, its prob nothing but better safe than sorry

Oh correction for earlier, the piston slap problem was on MY98 cars!

Degsi3, If the 'holding back' you feel is when the car is cold - don't worry, they all do that. Something to do with the car running 'Closed loop.' (Which I believe means that the car is running lean when cold).
There are far more kowledgeable people than me loitering in the 'General Technical' forum who may be able to help if you're still worried.
