Best Turbo????
Which is the best turbo TD04 or VF29?
I've just Had a new engine fitted to my 1999 "V" WRX
I've now been told by the garage tyhat the new engine came complete with turbo - so they left this one on it, and gave me back my other turbo.
However I have notice that the one thats now on the car is a TD04
The one I Have in my garage is a VF29
Having checked out the ECUTEK site it says the TD04 is a small turbo & that STi5/6/P1 use the VF28 which is better.
So is the VF29 better than a VF28? & TD04?
Also if the ECU is expecting the VF29 turbo, what sort of problems am I likely to encounter running the TD04????
(i dont want to blow another engine)
Is it a big job to swap the turbo????

The VF29 is basically the same as a VF24 or a VF28 and is the turbo your car should have and the one your ECU is expecting. Suggest you change it. Also look into the spec of the engine you have - not sure if there are any internal differences between an (import) WRX and a UK engine. Sounds like you've been given a UK engine - they run a lower rev limit. AFAIK, the heads, rods are the same, presume the pistons are but you should check. If there are any internal differences you should avoid exploring the 7500 RPM (IIRC) WRX rev limiter and keep it below 7000 RPM IMHO.
