Question

I'm in the process of making a DIY AFR meter per John Banks' thread (many thanks, John ).

Question is how should I connect the signal input of the monitor to the Lambda signal at the ECU. I assume this is a shielded cable from the sensor to the ECU. So should I use a shielded single core cable, using the shield as the ground connection, and then run a separate +ve supply lead to the monitor? (I assume any noise will be on the +12v supply and hence you don't want this inside the shielding?).

Or doesn't it matter - ie can I run a single 3 core cable from ECU to monitor, picking up signal, ground and +12V all from the ECU?

Thanks for the help

Dave

Thumbs up

I took the +ve supply from the Lighter socket, and the ground and signal from the ECU. Which MY car are you fitting it to? as I have the pinouts for the MY97/98 ECU if you need them.

Thanks - I'm fitting it to a MY00 so pinouts will be different - I have the Link v5 manual at home so will get the pinouts from there.

I didn't use shielded cable, I just used 3 wires twisted around each other. I also spliced into the ECU loom just before the connector using signal, ECU 0V and 12V switched ignition.

The lambda signal wire isn't shielded. Also of note there was Difference of a few mV between chassis 0V (where the ECU cover is bolted to the chassis) and ECU 0V. Since the the ECU refers the lambda signal voltage to its ECU 0V I thought my AFR should do the same.

Hope this helps

Justin

Thanks Justin. Think I'll do the same then.
